Summary: Good things and bad things Comment: Good things:
- great reception (I can use it even on NYC subways sometimes)
- really simple
- great volume
- small
- well-designed menus and easy to lock keys
Bad things:
- slow button response - I can type way faster than this thing can register
- HORRIBLE CHARGER - this might be the reason NOT to get this phone. First, it uses a crazy non-standard charger, so you're screwed if it breaks since you can't get a cheap replacement and have to pay at least $20 at a Cingular store. Second, the charger has little prongs that go in - it is realy hard to pull out straight. There is a trick to getting it out, you have to tilt the charger piece at an angle from your phone. Unfortunately, it is extremely counterintuitive to do that and there are no instructions to tell you that that's what you gotta do. I broke one charger before I found out this "trick". Third, the charger at some point will mysteriously stop charging your phone. It only starts charging again if you hold the charger end into your phone at a specific angle. It is extremely annoying. After a while, even the specific angle thing will no longer work. I am about to get a third charger for it.
The idea behind this phone was excellent - small, compact, easy, down to earth phone that's good at being a phone. Unfortunately, it was extremely poorly manufactured. It sucks, because I can almost see it being great. If it were only 5% better, it would be an excellent phone!

Summary: Cingular prepid was a nightmare Comment: I purchased a Cingular prepaid plan and it came with a minimal cost phone. The phone was a "no bells and whistles" phone. When I started I had $10.00 to use. Within three days my balance was going down. Every day I called Cingular to find out what was going on and was told they would refund the money to the account and "this shouldn't happen again". This went on for 7 days. I finally got so fed up I called to cancel the service (keep in mind I never once made or received a call on the phone). I was told to return the phone, at my expense. I did this and two days later they sent me another one and charged my credit card for it. I had to return this phone also. This was 30 days ago, I am still calling to find out where my refunds (for both phones) are. I DO NOT recommend Cingular to anyone - not even my enemies. I am now using Tracfone and couldn't be happier. Steer clear of Cingular by all means.

Summary: Cingular's tricks to make money... Comment: I have recently tried several pre-paid phones as a cheap way of testing coverage before locking myself into a new 2 year plan. Of all companies, Cingular seems to recycle numbers the quickest, and they may be doing this on purpose. On each of the two lines that I activated, I received several incoming calls per day - for other people! I never gave the number out to anyone, and I only used the two lines to call each other.
It is of course in Cingular's best interest to have wrong number calls coming into my phone, because they make even more money that way. But for the two lines I activated, the number of incoming calls was excessive - and even when I turned the phone off, I then had the problem of having dozens of calls on my voice mail that I had to listen to and delete (again spending valuable airtime).
Based on this experience, I can NOT recommend Cingular to anyone!

Summary: I wish I had read the reviews before I bought this phone Comment: Cingular is a rip off. I only wanted this phone for emergencies. I get charged a dollar a day. I get charged for checking messages. I get charged if I hit the wrong button and cancel it before it finishes dialing! I bought $30.00 minutes. I have had 2 short conversations, and I am down to $5.00. I will not be buying anymore minutes. Thankfully I only spent $20.00 on the phone.

Summary: Don't buy this piece of Crap....READ WHY: Comment: Don't buy this junk. The phone itself works fine. But, the major problem is the crappy adaptor/charger. It doesn't use any sort of standard charger. It has some sort of prong charger, you can use a sony one or one of those universal ones with a sony adaptor. The problem is once you stick the charger in into the phone, it takes an act of God, to pull it back out. You risk breaking it trying to pull it straight out, the only real way to pull it out is at an angle which you'll also risk breaking it, it takes more than a fair amount of force to remove the adaptor from the phone, guarantee it will break within a month or two.
