Summary: I love this phone! Comment: I love this phone! I have had no issues with sound quality or reception what so ever. I use Cingular as my provider and it took a while for me to get both text messaging and web to work as Cingular does not sell this phone and therefore cannot really support it either. They actually gave up after 45 minutes on the phone with me (they were really helpful though), but after playing around with it and using the Nokia site for setting up the phone everything works. I then spent another couple of hours surfing for J2ME applications/games so now I have something to kill time with :) This phone is sweet!!!

Summary: Excellent phone Comment: The Nokia 8801 is definitely a great phone. The fit, finish, and craftsmanship are all top notch, and the design is impeccable. The sliding mechanism is unlike any other phone on the market, and is very addictive. The motion is crisp and decisive, and the attention to detail (even in the packaging and included accessories) is immediately tangible.
No doubt the bulk of the cost of the phone is due to the design element and the time spent on manufacturing the phone. It is certainly not feature-packed, but what it does, it does well. If you're looking for a phone that handles all the basic essentials (bluetooth, PIM, etc), and want something that will look really good at the same time, then look no further.
The phone's weight is definitely a concern - it's very hefty for its size, yet it's built like a rock. It could be a smidge lighter, but it also doesn't really bother me.
The keypad is rather small. Those with clumsy hands or cumbersome digits would most likely not be happy, but I haven't had many problems, and I'm still getting used to it. Besides, my other phone (nighttime or travel) is a 7280, which has no keypad. I'm not distressed.
The 8801 is best summed up as a premium phone, rather than a feature-packed multimedia device. The 8801 even has special access numbers for priority support and care from Nokia - clearly this is not a phone for the masses. It even has specially-composed ringtones by Ryuichi Sakamoto, and specially-created themes and wallpapers. Buy this phone to stand out from the crowd.

Summary: Perfect for me. Comment: All I look for in a phone is how it looks, how small it is, and how fast it is (browsing address book, deleting messages, going through menues). The 8801 does this perfectly considering it is a Color phone.
Phones were getting smaller and faster. The best example is the 8890 which I owned for 3 years. That phone has no lag when you erase messages or browse menues. I was so happy with this "small and fast" trend and then came the slow color phones. Not only that, but soon followed the camera phones.
With this color and camera phone combination, cells started to increase in size and functions. Speed, however, was not given much of interest. All they wanted was to print spec sheets showing how many actions a particular cell phone can perform.
Well I AM HAPPY to say that 8801 does none of this nonesence. It does have a cammera, but it takes horrible pictures which I dont care about (I actually rather the phone not having one). This phone is exactly what I was looking for. Its the 8890, but color version.
If you want a FAST, BEAUTIFUL, HEAD TURNING phone then this is it.
Nokia warrants this phone for two years and you will find a special number on the warranty manual of your phone. If soemething ever goes wrong with your 8801, just call that number and you wont have to wait to get answered. Explain the problem and you get your phone shipped overnight.
Nokia not only did great on this phone, but also providing Customer Service for it.
The ONLY drawback so far I've had is everyone wanting to take a look at my phone when I take it from the puch to talk to someone. It really stands out from the croud.
When people see bulky phones, they will ask you how many MP the camera has and if you can go online and what things have you downloaded... When they see an 8801, they want to TOUCH it, SEE it really closely, and ask you how much it costed. I guarantee this is the only phone out there (except for VERTU phones) that catch this type of attension.
Yes, theNokia 8801 is expensive, but its perfect. Materials used and design of the think is far beyond any other phone. Same as Ferrari, yeah they charge a LOT for them, but is a masterpiece joined by carbon fiber and all those expensive extra gadgets you dont see from outside the car.

Summary: Gorgeous phone, with few flaws... Comment: This item is a mix of a jewel, luxury timepiece and of course 1st class phone... Those that would be seriously intersted in 8801, would know it's amazing pedigree of higest-end Nokia products that have served some of the most succesful people in the world. Of course this product has some flaws, that are mentioned in the other reviews (most significant is the size and position of keys), but overal it manages to perform it's secodary function as a phone, and does a fabulous job doing so with its primal, atracting attention! If you want to swith to VERTU someday I would think that this would be a nice start. But anyway Nokia 8801 is an amazing product! I recomend it to everyone who know what this is!!! ;-)
