Summary: expensive toy for the rich and clever, I'll explain ;)
Comment: First of all, I see a lot of hate reviews here from people who doesn't even own the phone. Some negative points made by other who own the phone are true;
-we should get more from a 'top-notch' phone
-the phone it replaces (8890i, 8890) brought new features, this phone simply does not
-might have been a little bit lighter (138gr.)
-attracts finger prints but they are not a huge problem as they are being made out in some of the reviews, pouch provided takes care of them perfectly

But there is a big catch at this point where I say the phone it replaces; DO NOT expect to see proce cuts on this phone such as the RAZR, this phone will always be exclusive. From what we've seen in the past (8810, 8890, 8910i), this is for sure. 8890i still sells for 550$ new.

If you are a person like me who changes phones like socks, you know how important this is. As the time goes on, the phone you bought 9 months ago gets old, the DESIGN gets old, you start to see it everywhere. It just does not feel exclusive anymore. Before this phone I owned S700, which I paing 649$ (same prove I paid for my 8801 now), 8 months later the price is now down to 379$ and it lost its exclusivity as SonyEricsson started to use the same design with other phones. Same thing goes for RAZR, almost 1 out of 4 phones are RAZRs out there! Because the price is now down to 200$.

My plan is to keep this phone for at least 3 yrs., I bought it from CompUSA with their 2yrs. extended warranty, so if anything goes bad they replace it with a new one. They DO NOT try to fix the problem, they just change it with a new one or with a phone at the same class if they don't have the 8801 anymore. The price is 599$ and the 2 yr. warranty is around 65$. It is also possible to extend the warranty when it expires.

It is a pretty clever buy at this price if you think about the time period you will be using it. Whatever happens, I will have this phone for a long period of time, I also have a mpx220 which I use for its more advanced features(Windows Mobile 2003SE), these 2 make a perfect couple in my opinion :)

In summary, this phone is a good choice for a person who cares more about the looks than the features. This phone will surely last for years. It is a good investment for people who can afford

Summary: Great with a few flaws
Comment: This is a great phone. It feels great in your hand; the sound level is very good; the menus are easy to navigate; camera is better than the RAZR; and it connects seamlessly with bluetooth devices( I use the Plantronics 640A), including your computer. The software that comes with the phone is good and easy. The downsides include the buttons seem small and a bit slippery; and I haven't been able to connect to the internet, and both Nokia and Cingular haven't been able to assist. I can do without internet access 24/7. Despite these flaws, this is the greatest phone that I have ever had. I have a RAZR as backup and a 3100 before that. Best phone ever. If you like a phone that you are not going to see in the crowd and can't afford a Vertu, then, this is the phone for you.

Summary: Gorgeous phone!
Comment: I have to say that I am in love with this phone! It is absolutely *gorgeous*! It even comes with it's own charging base that emits a blue light around the bottom when the phone is charging that somehow makes my nightstand look stylish too! The phone also comes with a second battery and they conveniently supply an extra space in the charging station for the unused battery to charge at the same time. The only problems so far are getting the back cover off whenever I have to remove the battery and also that Nokia doesn't seem to have produced a car charger for this phone yet (hence why they've provided a second battery I guess.) Anyway, for all those who love having a phone that's a conversation piece, this is the phone to buy. I purchased the RAZR when it first came out and every time I pulled that thing out in public someone commented. Well this phone is more of an eye catcher than the RAZR was *and* no one has it yet so people will really be talking. In terms of functionality, this phone doesn't seem to do much more than other phones out there, but who cares? It's gorgeous! :o) It's also extremely thin (about the same thinness as the RAZR although skinnier and a little longer) so it can be stored away in a pocket easily. Also, as a unlocked phone I was kinda worried about the process of getting it to work with Cingular but I just popped in the SIM card and I was able to dial and everything immediately. Overall, a great phone to buy (oh and I got mine at CompUSA cheaper than it is here, but shhh, don't tell anybody :o).

Summary: Nokia 8800 - 8801
Comment: When I first saw this phone I was truly in love, a phone for someone that has no clue what to do with there money, no conception of value and obviously no common sense.

Yes, I am one of those people and I had to have it. All I can say is that I love this phone more then I love my children. From the sleek look to the luxurious feel, I knew when I made my first phone call this phone was for me.

The stainless steel body comes in handy especially if you drop your phone as often as I do. After dropping my phone on numerous occasions the Nokia walked away with out a scratch. The window is made of watch glass which will protect the window from scratches also.

I like the heaviness and size of the phone, the short battery life could be annoying, but I usually can get a full day on a full charge, hence the phone comes with a spare battery. The key pad # are small so thank god for speed dialing. One of the things that I dislike about the phone is that it is difficult to adjust the listening volume, must be done while on the phone.

Bad news: Had to take out a small loan to pay for this phone. Good news: When the kids are grown and gone and the wife is spending her social security check at Bingo, my Nokia 8800 will still be my side.

Summary: has its issues
Comment: I don't have a landline, so I rely on my cell. I had an 8890 for years and loved it. I saw the 8801 as a natural upgrade. I've been both impressed and disappointed.

First, and most obvious, is the battery issue. I knew going in that the battery life was sub-par. OK, I can live with that given the screen. However, after only 10 months, my batt won't keep the phone alive for more than 12 hours. I bought a new batt, but this is sad. And the phone doesn't reliably seat properly in the charging station. I find myself simply plugging it in directly when I need to be sure it's gonna get recharged.

The web browser is awful. And I can't get mini opera to work right with cingular. In fact, cingular won't even help me troubleshoot since this isn't one of "their" phones.

The dedicated help line is nice. The reception for me has been adequate. It's annoying, though, when you accidentally turn your head the wrong way in a call and cause the slider to hang up. I find the email feature invaluable.

Overall, I'd probably buy it again but not for the price I paid when it came out initially. The 8801 is definately a compromise for style vs. substance.
