Summary: Qualified praise Comment: The product description above is misleading; this phone does not operate on the 850 MHz GSM band. AT&T subscribers may find reception difficult in certain areas.
The product description also mentions EDGE, but Sony Ericsson's product details mention nothing about EDGE, so I'm not sure that's strictly accurate. I find data speeds to be almost EDGE-like, though.
Another caveat: while it is a 3G phone, it's *European* 3G, on the UMTS 2100 band. AT&T's 3G network runs on 1900. This phone thus *does not work* on AT&T's 3G network. I rather wish I had understood that before buying it.
The browser is ostensibly Opera Mobile 8.65, but it's a rather inferior variety of 8.65 to the version sold for Windows Mobile or S60. Opera Mini can be installed separately and runs like a dream. Rumor is that the forthcoming Opera Mobile 9.x will be distributed via a firmware update and will be fabulous.
As long as you can get by with WiFi and triband 900/1800/1900 MHz, you'll be fine.

Summary: So far, so good!!! Comment: It's been all i have been looking for...the only thing is that is not 3G compatible and is not a quad band telephone, besides that, it's a great phone, two thumbs up!!!!

Summary: great phone! Comment: This is a great phone... rock solid and consistently gets good signals and long battery life. This phone works in Japan flawlessly as it supports UMTS.
However, the negatives:
- It has Wifi but no SIP client built-in. For VOIP needs, you need to get a separate SIP client elsewhere.
- The camera isn't that sharp... and no better than other camera phones at night.
- UI layout isn't that intuitive... for example it took me a while to find where the SyncML settings are located.
- It has Blackberry Connect AND Microsoft Exchange (separate download from Sony Ericsson website) for push email, however, you can't have both installed on the device.
- The BlackBerry support doesn't include the Blackberry Messaging application for chat.
For being ALMOST there, it gets a 4 star instead of 5.
The other Blackberry-capable phone competitor is the Nokia E61. I prefer this one as its not as wide yet also has a full non-multitap keyboard, although the E61 does have built-in SIP client but the battery life is shorter especially running in 3G.

Summary: Be aware with the band you are buying for! Comment: Well this is a sony ericcson so the quality is what you expected plus the symbian 9 works great, I only had problems connecting to a Bluethooth GPS, and there arent enough 3erd party applications like in more popular phones, It is a Smartphone that coneccts to blackberry and does all what the description saids but I had two problems, one is that the phone is a quad band but it does not work in the 850 band that youll find in some countries, it does support 3G and Video TV. The other is that the unlocked version they sell is for Hong kong and it comes with 2 languages, chinnese and english I try to download more languages but in SE site there isnt support to the latest firmware version it came. So I dont have spanish letters recognition. Anyway I like all the features and the use of wifi is great no more internet overcharges!

Summary: Pass ! Sony Ericcson P1i Review! Comment: Won't include info that's already been covered in review or preview of the phone.
Here's a summary based on ownership since Feb. 2008:
1. Sony will NOT support Imported phones! PERIOD!!
- Tech support sucks and won't cooperate!
2. Software update programs SUCKS!!
- Won't work on work computer, home computer or laptop!
- MP3 player won't recognize audiobooks in mp3 format without a possible phone firmware update but can't since update software won't work as I found out from emailing Sony's tech support several times!!
3. Battery life sucks!
- Must recharge about ~3days when NOTHING is used except for phone!
- Heat does affect battery life as in SHORTENS it. Left it overnight when it was very warm with over 50% juice left and it was 0% the next day!
- Some Sony retail store may phone but does NOT sell batteries so go to eBay to buy/import from Asia for a lot less money than buying via Sony online!
4. Sometimes phone will FREEZE especially if it was in Standby-mode!
- Must remove battery then re-insert to REBOOT the phone! How ridiculous!
- A possible firmware update may help IF ONLY the update software would work!!!!
5. Sony uses PROPRIETARY sockets for charging phone so a 3.5mm adapter is needed to use REGULAR headphones!!
6. Stylus is cheap and breaks easily.
- Bot a 10-pack for future use. How pathetic!
7. Touch screen isn't as intuitive like that on the iPhone!
- The keys take awhile to get used to but is manageable!
8. Wifi is decent, but in US, the phone uses old EDGE network which is Darn SLOW!!!
- Must shut off Wifi to conserve battery life!
9. What?! No games, just productivity software available for P1i??!!
- Phone IS a PDA so NO FUN with this phone! Not even with the music player/FM radio, which should be used sparingly to also conserve battery life!!
10. 3.2 megapixel camera is quite good for a camera phone!
- Only bad things are the zoom isn't very strong and it doesn't take pictures well when it's very bright!
11. Summary:
1. You want a device for taking pictures: buy a camera!
2. You want a music player: buy a mp3 player/iPod!
3. You want a phone with some features like a calendar.. OK! This phone is it BUT expect to PAY lots of money for this phone and LOTS of headache!
Wasted over $400 on this phone!
At least it works for an overpriced phone! Too bad the battery life sucks so I must keep a good watch on it!
